Pay it Forward Saint John is hoping to inspire the people in the Saint John Region to participate in International Pay It Forward Day on April 25th, 2013. As of February 28th, there are 55 days left until Pay It Forward Day, which will mark the beginning of the Ripple Effect of kindness in our community.

Recently, members of the Pay It Forward Saint John Committee presented the idea to the Regional Mayors’ Caucus and we look forward to regional support through municipal proclamations and participation on April 25th.

There is tremendous power and positive energy in giving – it is a shame that not enough people have experienced it to the fullest. Pay It Forward Day is about all people, from all walks of life, giving to someone else and making a positive difference. At last count there were more than 38 countries around the world participating in the day.

So why Pay it Forward?

  • To encourage all of us to embrace the incredible power of giving.
  • To show each other that we care and that there is love, hope and magic all around us.
  • To know that we may be only one person in this world, but to one person, at one time, we are the world. Continue reading

Youth Vital Signs Saint John – A Project of the Greater Saint John Community Foundation

16 Nov

Young people of Saint John want to be heard, and they appreciate a chance to share views and have a say into the future direction of Saint John.

Youth Vital Signs Saint John in partnership with the Saint John Community Foundation and Telus provide Youth (13-18 year olds) a chance to share ideas about what works well in greater Saint John, and what needs change.  Youth Vital Signs Saint John wants the opinions and perspectives of youth to inform the public and private sectors, governments, and youth-serving charitable organizations.

This type of Youth engagement is part of a growing movement, seeks to hear, strengthen, and empower young people.  Through this process, Youth Vital Signs Saint John provides a check- in on issues that matter most to youth in Greater Saint John.  Youth Vital Signs provides an opportunity for our young people to have a say in the first ever Youth Vital Signs Saint John exercise. So, if you are a young person aged 13-18, who would like to influence change by sharing their experiences and perspectives, expand their understanding of local community issues, and perhaps take action in their  school and community, then YouthVital Signs is a great way to kick start this  process.  On November 26th, High School students in greater Saint John will complete the Youth survey.  A special thanks to Mr. Derek O’Brien (Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Anglophone South School District) for supporting this initiative through our local High Schools, and to Mr. Philip Sweezey (Technology Mentor- Anglophone South School District) for facilitating the outstanding youth videos posted to the website.
