ST.VINCENT’S BOYS’ – ST. MALACHY’S MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI NEWS
Thank you to all the alumni who attended the 2011 alumni dinner was held on Friday evening, June 12 at the former Knight’s of Columbus building on Coburg Street with 185 alumni in attendance.
The evening began with a ‘Wine & Cheese’ reception at St. Malachy’s Memorial High School from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM. This was also an opportunity for alumni to have a guided tour of the renovations and expansions which have taken place at the school. With a present student population of 1100 the expansions were certainly essential and the tour was a big hit with the alumni who had not seen the expansions.
The 2011 Annual Alumni Dinner began with a reception at 6:00 and the dinner at 7:00. One of the highlights was the fund raising activity of the Class of 1981. Led by Dr. Mike Simon, the class raised almost $9,000 which was given to members of the graduating class of 2011. Sixteen names were drawn and the only requirement was that a graduating student had to be present at the dinner to win. In total, Alumni gave more than $22,000 to assist graduating students with their further education.
The Class of ’81 had a very full weekend. With class members coming from as far away as Florida and the U.S. mid-west their activities began on Thursday evening with a gathering at Shooters in West Saint John. A nice feature of this evening was the invitation extended to faculty to attend. Present were: Bill (Uncle Willy) Coffey; Terry Comeau: Yves Daigle; Neil White & Don Smith. A great time was had by all. The class attended the alumni dinner on Friday night and then had a golf tournament on Saturday.
ALUMNI EXECUTIVE: Led by Dr. Marc Nicholson (Class of 94’), plans are well advanced for alumni activities for 2012:
UPCOMING ALUMNI EVENTS: On Saturday, May 5, the alumni will hold a fund raiser – a dinner/auction at the AQ, the Aquarius on the Golden Mile in West Saint John. The event will be hosted between 6-9pm at a cost of $20. 2012 ALUMNI DINNER: The 2012 Alumni Dinner will be held on Friday, JUNE 15 at ST.MALACHY’S HIGH SCHOOL. This evening will begin with a ‘Wine & Cheese ‘reception (5:30) in the school library. Members of the student body will conduct tours of the school.
The alumni dinner will be held in the school gymnasium and will begin with a reception at 6:00 PM. The dinner starts at 7:30 and tickets are available by calling St. Malachy’s School at: 506-658-5361. Tickets are: $ 40. Once again, the “O’BRIEN JACKET” will be “auctioned off’ and all proceeds from both the Dinner/Auction on May 5 and from the Alumni Dinner will go to members of the graduating class to assist in their further education. Any donation to the Alumni Association will receive a receipt for income tax purposes.
The executive encourages as many alumni to attend as possible to attend the reunion activities to support both your association and the graduating class of 2012.
